In March 2022 G.S. Wark’s Endress + Hauser Construction Project was awarded the Ontario General Construction Association Ontario Builder Awards – Group 3 Buildings Award. Endress & Hauser is the first privately funded project to concurrently aim for LEED Gold, Net Zero Carbon, and Net Zero Energy Designations. The project started with a 4-acre green field site that has now been transformed into a 50,000 ft2 two storey building complete with Geothermal, Solar Panels, and a state-of-the-art Mechanical System.

In October 2021 G.S. Wark became a member of the League of Champions Construction Safety. G.S. Wark joined the League of Champions due to an excellent safety record on their Endress+Hauser project.

G.S. Wark wishes to announce that after 44 years with G.S. Wark, John Wark retired in March 2021. John is the last of the three Wark brothers, who took over the Company from their father George S. Wark in 1983 to retire.

The Certificate of Recognition (COR™) is nationally trademarked and endorsed by participating members of the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA) and is administered by the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association in Ontario. It provides employers with an effective tool to assess their health and safety management system.

COR™ is aimed at driving positive workplace behaviour and practices that lead to improved performance. It is currently being used across Canada and is a pre-qualification requirement for many contractors working in and out of the province and on public- and private-sector projects.

COR is comprised of 19 health and safety elements of which strict requirements must be met, maintained and aggressively audited on an annual basis.

Wark Limited will continue as an employee owned firm with the appointment of Craig Hambly as President, John Morrone as Vice President, and John Wark as Secretary-Treasurer.

HAMILTON, ON – Harbour West Marina (HWM), operated by Hamilton Port Authority (HPA) is celebrating the opening of a new boat storage facility on Pier 15. Marina customers and special guests gathered on December 8 for a first look inside the new 60,000 sq.ft / $10 million facility.

As part of an agreement with the City of Hamilton in 2014, HWM/HPA agreed to move its winter boat storage from the West Harbour, to make way for the City’s extensive new West Harbour redevelopment.

In turn, to meet the needs of an expanding customer base, Harbour West Marina has built a brand new facility for winter boat storage on Pier 15.

The new building provides 40,000 sq.ft of premium indoor heated storage for recreational boats, which represents a unique offering among marinas in the region. “This new facility allows us to offer more value and service to our customers,” said Marina Manager Kelly Flood. “The market is responding very positively. We are already sold out of indoor storage for this winter season.”

Harbour West Marina strives to be an active partner with the City of Hamilton in promoting tourism at Hamilton’s waterfront. Better services for the boating community in Hamilton and beyond means more people choosing to visit Hamilton by water, using the marina as the jumpoff point to visit local restaurants and attractions.

The new building on Pier 15 is also the new home for the port’s maintenance shop, where HPA’s in-house maintenance team of 13 works to keep the ‘little city’ on Hamilton’s waterfront operating efficiently.

Hamilton Port Authority held its 13th annual golf tournament in June, breaking previous fundraising records to raise $23,000 for charity.

G.S. Wark successfully secured the Championship for 2016 of more than 140 players.

After years of constructing and renovating offices for their clients, the tables have turned, literally. In the summer of 2015, the Construction House located at 370 York Boulevard, Hamilton, Ontario, originally built by Wark in 1984, has seen some construction activity of its own. With new hires at the Wark office, they were in need of more space. Squeezing desks into the existing space just wasn’t enough. In the recent years with an expansion of the estimating department, hiring a full time corporate safety officer Mike Gzik and a new Business Development/Design Build Manager, John Morrone, more office space was necessary.

Visits to the Hamilton-Halton Construction Association’s physical plans room were dwindling lower and lower as the service is more widely used online. This space was now available for tenancy. Long-time tenant G. S. Wark have had expansions in the past, taking over available tenant space. The opportunity had become available again, this time to expand the Design-Build department. New office and meeting space was constructed for Wark and a renovation of the former plans room for offices for both Wark and HHCA businesses complete with new furniture and tables moved into place.

This summer also saw a major upgrade to the mechanical HVAC system at the Construction House and expansion of the communication system to accommodate for the new offices.

G. S. Wark has landed it’s second Capital project from Metrolinx in the last two years. First being successful on the Metrolinx Lewis Road Train Layover Facility in Stoney Creek contract in 2014, G. S. Wark is again successful in being awarded the Kitchener Go Transit Layover Facility beginning in late 2015.

• Electrical system to power idle trains
• Train fueling and sanding systems
• Snow melting system
• Automatic Train Location System

The new Kitchener Go Transit Layover Facility will have some similarities to the Stoney Creek site.
